TEAM ONTARIO HOLDS ONTO LEAD TO CLAIM  FIRST EVER CANADIAN VICTORY!

In a harrowing three days of fishing on the rugged yet beautiful waters of Georgian Bay, the Canadian squad pulled together and weighed in a whopping total of 332 pounds of bass; 29 pounds ahead of their nearest rival, the Wisconsin Federation.  The victory marked the first time ever that a federation outside of the United States claimed first place in the team standings.

In some respects the victory was bitter sweet, as the individual standings saw the leading Canadian, Rob McKill of Orangeville ON drop from 2nd on Day two, to 14th overall.  Ace angler Jamie Janzen of St Catherines, ON is content though, as his sixth place finish was still the highest on the Canadian Team and therefore earns him a well deserved berth for the next big BASS Federation event.  That one will see Jamie travel to the southern US this April to compete in the Citgo BASS National Federation Championship against some of the best grass routes anglers on the continent.

Here Jamie and the other top eight anglers from the Midland tournament will represent their states and province and compete against four other BASS Federation Division winners. The five anglers with the highest weight from their division will qualify for the 2004 Bassmasters Classic – the world championships of bass fishing.
