Dave Mercer to MC the Bass Pro Shops Lake Simcoe Open
Hello Anglers Competing in the 2007 Bass Pro Shops Lake Simcoe Open at Sibbald Point Provincial Park in Sutton
Please see attached a press release for the Bass Pro Shops Lake Simcoe Open. We would like to thank Dave Mercer for not just fishing in our event this coming Saturday, but also for accepting the request to MC this unique event.
Just in case you have not kept up to speed with all the press releases sent out this year about the BPS Open, please be sure to visit www.aurorabass.com and click under Simcoe Open. Please take careful note of what tackle and equipment you will be using on the 27th, so that you can optimize your chances at winning some of the special incentives offered by our sponsors. For those who have not read the complete rules and regs yet, please check them out on our site as well.
Please note that there will be a couple of more important announcements this week. As many of you will be on the water pre-fishing these last few days before the event, please help us and you out by spreading the news about this tournament and invite as many people as you like to the exciting weigh-in at Sibbald Point Provincial Park. We have secured free entry into the park that day for all spectators and volunteers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please ask either: Herb Quan, Simon Frost or myself.
Thanks,
Wil Wegman
PS: For those of you whose partner’s email may not have been listed with the entry form, kindly send it to me at your earliest convenience so that I can include him/her with the next mail out.

The Aurora Bassmasters are pleased to announce that they have secured none other than Mr Facts of Fishing himself Dave Mercer, as the MC for the 2007 Bass Pro Shops (BPS) Lake Simcoe Open. The biggest bass tournament ever to hit the southern shores of Lake Simcoe will take place on Sat. Oct. 27/07 at Sibbald Point Provincial Park in Sutton. The free weigh-in ceremonies begin at 3pm when Dave will be entertaining the crowd and greeting anglers as they weigh their fish.
Mercer is the popular host of Facts of Fishing, which appears over 300 times weekly on several North American TV stations. Besides his informative one minute how-to tips on TV, he is a sought after seminar host and one of Ontario’s top professional anglers. Mercer will be pulling double duty this Saturday as he will also be competing in this BPS Lake Simcoe Open. “I am really pumped about this event and what it has in store for the 120 anglers who will be fishing it. Not only will we be fishing a lake that holds the all time Canadian record for the five heaviest smallmouth bass ever weighed in, at 29.90 pounds, we’ll de doing it at a time when that record could easily be broken”, he said.
Other notable anglers who will be fishing the event include Aurora Bassmaster Angela Mitchell who competes in the Women’s Bassmaster Tour (WBT) south of the border. She will be fishing with Dianna Clark from Tennessee who is the 2006 WBT Angler of the Year. Award winning outdoor writer Gord Pyzer, will be coming all the way down from Kenora to fish a lake he considers one of North America’s top smallmouth fisheries. Patrick Walsh, editor of Outdoor Canada Magazine will be fishing with freelance writer and fishing personality Chris Hockley.
Mike Desforges, who won $100,000 at the 2006 Lake Simcoe New Ark Open in Barrie (for which he holds the all time three day tournament record with 15 bass weighing 73.37 pounds) is looking forward to this tournament. Desforges, no stranger to big pay checks, also took home $50,000 when he won the 2003 BASS New York Open and will be teaming up with ace angler Derek Strub who is considered one of this countries top open water smallmouth anglers.
Of course what would any big sporting event be like without some local favourites to root for and former champions Dave Johnson of Jackson’s Point and Barry Graves of Keswick are always a team to watch. All these and many more incredible anglers will be striving for a six pound average in order to set that new one day Canadian Record.
