I think you will lose some of the Under 100's competitors... I think many compete in the lower HP to have a chance at winning and competing on a level field..and using it as a stepping stone to gaining experience...
I remember first starting out and not wanting to just donate my money to the big boys like the Izumi's and Crawfords..
Bring back the under 75 series for the people just starting out!...to gain some experience and confidence...as a stepping stone..
Don't allow the pros to fish it!

The Haliburton crossover didn't really see the results you are thinking
2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 13th all BM 100's. 70 teams participating
Here is the interesting part
Finish points if separate
2nd 199 200
3rd 198 199
5th 196 198
8th 194 196
11th 190 195
13th 188 194
21st 180 193
25th 176 192
30th 171 191
Might make a difference if you are fishing for the Classic and going for the big money, and you are fishing against the best from all the series. I took these finishes from the Haliburton crossover as posted on the CSFL site.
Just a thought

Pat,
Can you do the breakdown for the scugog cross-over?
Just curious.

Pat that means that 21 of the top 30 were the larger boats not closed to 50/50 and most of the boats at Haliburton were bm100 boats but not many from the area long trip to prefish \.

the way I look at it, rather than register for the bm 100's next year I'm better off to fish a unrestricted division. for me it isn't about boat hp but combining the series. it isn't a true restricted hp series.

I looked at Scugog, and true the BM100's didn't fair as well, 2nd, 14th, 16th, 22nd, 28th etc. But I think it paid 20 spots, and the 2nd place paid lots more than if it were a stand alone.
However, if you look at the respective purses
Haliburton (crossover) 70 teams x $300 x 65% = purse of $13650
Canal 38 teams x $300 x 65% = purse of $7400
Sparrow 47 teams x $300 x 65% = purse of 9165
Scugog (crossover) 108 teams x $300 x 65% = purse of $21060
To me the quality of the competition isn't much different, I see some teams that can win out of a canoe fishing the BM100. Combining to increase the pot of gold seems like a good idea, and keeping the points separate ensures that teams fishing the BM100 circuit get full credit for where they finished in their division. Same concept as the SCCA racing system. Everyone races together but points awarded according to division.
But hey what do I know, I don't have anything to do with the operation, Andy and Vita have a good handle on what works.
Good discussions and arm chair quarterbacking for next season.?LOL

Interesting discusion for sure, what about Simcoe Wildcard and the 2 Quinte's.?

I look at those purses for the 4 events listed above, and as a BM100 boater myself, I would be thrilled with a purse of $7400. With a smaller boat my operating expenses are way less so I dont need to win as much money. This year I also fished 2 of the 100 series events with my 11 year old son. He loved it, I loved it. I did not take him to the Scugog crossover. Maybe it is just me but I agree with what Daniel Maw said, I feel I am donating my money when I fish the regular events, but in the 100's even with an 11 year old as a partner, I feel we have a shot at some money. Even though I feel like I sometimes do donate, I also feel that fishing tournaments is the best way to learn. With that said, I just dont know right now if I will fish with my son in a crossover event....mostly because I cant take it when he out fishes me and then he rubs it in!!
-
Also, I do think that the points should be separated. Have the crossover event, payout according to finish, then award the points based on your division. Now there still is a 100 series and I will still have a chance to qualify for the classic. Otherwise why even run a small boat.
Or option # 2 is correct... keep it under a certian Hsp. Or even better you can fish in the 100's until you qualify for the classic or win a 100 series event then you get bumped up to the other events. Most other sports are like this, as you progress then you are forced to move up and can not go down in levels again.
There must be a way to keep this series going! If we all keep throwing up ideas on this I am sure we can come up with some great ideas that Andy can implement!

Sounds like you guys have no confidence. No offence intended but if you guys want to compete, you need confidence. Without that, you are just donating. And as far as separate points for the cross over......why bother, you guys have lost the classic before you even qualify for it. Seriously, if you don't think you can compete in a regular event and are just "donating" why worry about qualifying for the classic and fishing against the top portion of that pack. Maybe the best solution would be to separate the points in the crossovers for t.o.y. and no one fishes the classic from the restricted devision. Maybe thats the answer......just my thoughts. I get asked a lot on what it takes to do well and there are two main ingredients......time on the water and the confidence to succeed. Without either of those you are waiting for lady luck to blow you a kiss.
Be good!;)

Sean you are right the big one is time on the water, we all know we can catch fish and the BM 100 are now fishing all new water we are going to the other series water not the other way around that what alot of them are upset about. With 1 1/2 or 2 hours travelling time to get to lakes it's big dollars to learn new water. The BM100 had an average of 60 boats before the crossovers started now 40 it was bigger then the northerns.
-
I can understand what you are saying but isn't the whole idea behind a resticted series to be an entry level series that can bring new competitors into the sport? If you keep doing the same thing over and over you may not progress as fast as if you were forced to figure out new things. This is how we all learn. I was not much of a smallie guy untill I was forced to fish Lake of Bays. Now I have some confidence in targetting them and have been getting better at finding them and catching them.
New water can teach you a tremendous amount of valuable information that you can utilize on different bodies of water.
-
This may sound stupid but by cross over do you mean bm100's and unlimitted run on the same lake at the same time?
Peace out

Sean, you are right I dont have confidence ....yet! Can't speak for the others! Confidence and experience go hand in hand in this sport. And when I say experience you say time on the water...same thing. But my confidence grows with every tournament I fish, and I fished quite a few this year and plan to fish even more next year. But I think what we are mostly talking about is the new set up of the BM100's. That series really ceases to exist under the new setup. Gone are the small lakes like Canal, Sparrow, Cameron, now all replaced with bigger water. AS a newbie I know next to none of the water, but the small lakes are easier to learn. And my first goal is to make the classic, second goal is to earn a cheque, and third will be to be a regulary compete for top spots. Each level of goals takes time and hard work. By taking away the BM100's it will only increase the time needed to achieve those goals, it wont prevent me from attaining them.
