wow 7.45 , any pictures ?
Satruday was flat flat flat out there - surprized there weren't way more local out for the guarenteed $5k deal??
Great weights brought in - unbeleiveable mule of fish brought in by John - sick looking fish, photo doesn't hardly do it justice ....Lol!. I posted a pic at:

Great job CSFL, just a little disappointing that there were so many complainers and so litte turnouts. Goes to show csfl trying to keep everyone happy. Great job Palotta Family and keep up the great efforts. Just my two cents.
It was mentioned in an earlier post from another thread that some fealt the release of this date and location was too far into the season (late August unless I am mistaken) for a lot of guys to be able to get the time off work, book hotel etc. Otherwise I feel like this event would have been well participated!Quote:

There's deffinitely numbers in the SW area for sure (TBBA alone draws nearly 70 boats on a consistent basis), but I wonder how many of them are fair weather fisherman? I'd have come out, but my partner for St Clair could only do St Clair due to prior committments. Would have loved to otherwise!
Well don't think Andy can afford to come back based on those numbers.
had to delete what I really wanted to post here; bit of a sore spot for sure...
As if 'arguably' the best smallmouth fishing in the world isn't enough; the CSFL goes out of its way and offers garanteed paybacks - and has a few guys showing up from all over the province with very poor representation from the local Guru's down that way. What's next? are we (the anglers) going to have to offer Andy a garanteed field to get him back down there?.... SHEESH! I just don't get it....
None the less, was a great weekend for those taking advantage of it, and what a fish by Jonny Mac - can't imagine what that must have looked like in the net, I think I may have nightmares after seeing that thing! ?LOL
+1. I don't care enough to post anything else....enough said.Quote:

Peace Out
Dan
Definitely a great (fantastic) fishery, Pete!!
I wonder if participation was down due to a variety of factors: 75 boats at Fed Cup, 150 boats suffering from post B1 experience (weather canc etc), 27 boats at Ottawa Valley event, late season, entry costs for two days etc etc etc etc ..................... is there a formula??? I don't know .....................
This is the best time of year, in my opinion, for bass fishing. I wonder why no one offers a "fall series" to capitalize on it? Many people say weather, hunting and other reasons, but, there are many reasons during the "regular" season that affect turnout also.
7.45??????? Wait til a full bag of those show up at the scales some day - wow!!!
Well said Pete, amen.
Pete,
Being from the area I have to totally agree with you on the numbers, It was a little disappointing to see the support that was recieved. I personally could not fish this event as I just came off a 3 weekend bout, and have the next 5 weekends planned with events. I even contemplated on Friday just showing up to do the event but it just was not in the cards.
Hopefully Andy will come back again, with a little more notice. Lake Erie is a premier fishing location when the weather cooperates.
Well done on a 3rd place finish.
Congrats Brent and Dale for a great bag.
What a great event this is and fishing could not have been better.
Unfortunately the lack of local support is certainly a problem. It would be a shame to see that series end. I hope St. Clair has better results.
Thanks Andy and Vita and the whole crew at the CSFL for another first class event.
I might have to try this big water smallie thing some day! 7.45lb fish can be motivating!

Still can't figure out these computers!!!! Above i was trying to quote Pete to say "well said". I sure wish there could have been more people as it would be great to see a fall series. Andy P actually helped me and put a non boater in contact with me so i could make a last minute decision to go as I didn't have a partner....it was all set up and then we had a death in the family Friday night and i had to cancel. I really hope St Clair gets a good showing. I see a lot of negative posts regarding geographic area of the event locations so for everyone in SW Ontario, now's your chance...let's get out there and support the last two events so hopefully the CSFL wants to keep coming back. IMO, they've done their part, now we just have to show up and fish!!!!
Well said Pete.
Also like to point out that the $5k was won with the smallest boat in the field! Congrats to Brent and Dale.
Also congrats to Larry and Joe who won on Sunday with just over 22 pounds including a 6 and half pound big fish.
Looking forward to St.Clair now!
ITs simple if you dont like what Andy is doing dont fish for those of us who enjoy fishing with Andy we stand by his making it a fair and enjoyable for everyone not just the WHINNING TOP DOGS stop all the WHINNING and let us have fun :P
Congrats Brent and Dale -and what a smallie John and Steve caught -even looked big from a distance -was disapointing having a 35 boat field with $5 K guarantee -cant see Andy coming back like Mike said -unfortunate -while it was a tough bite overall -everyone caught fish and had a great day!
great event, thanks Andy and Vita and family.
its hard to hear people complain when 5 grand guaranteed, and the weather cooperated. great forecast held all weekend although alot of us had a shock saturday morning with the rollers from the southwest greeted us at the mouth. where did they come from?
Obviously John and I had an incredible weekend, it was hilarious to hear Derek Strub comment that him and Mike saw us boat that mule from a far and saw the high fives and said don't really see them show that kind emotion... must of been a good fish. that's funny.
can't wait for St.Clair and then BPS
can we be any luckier to have these waters to fish.
thanks again CSFL for feeding addiction. it's all positive.
Steve
hey Mark K. great bait.... slammers
I was at the troft when John pulled that mule out of his weigh basket on stage....Wow! I've never seen a Smallie with such a thick tail on it. My 5.6 was an embarrassment compared to that monster.
$5K guaranteed with 1-50 boats, then up from there and only 33 boats showed up?!?!?! I think we all were left shaking our heads. Perfect weather forecasted, guaranteed money, and low turn out.
I hope the CSFL goes back to Erie.
Bring on St.Clair!
I'll second that!Quote:

This is a lake that can go from zero to defcon five at the blink of an eye, and your wondering why guys are not interested in fishing it? And if it does blow you off the lake, your option is to fish the river drifting at 30 mph dragging a one a half ounce weight just to keep contact with the bottom? Wow sounds like fun.
Your right, catching consistent 3-5 lbers all day with the possibility of 6 & 7 lb fish must really suck lol. Seriously though, I don't buy the whole rough water thing! The Casey Cup and Bass Pro Simcoe Open has had and will have 100+ boat fields. And Simcoe ain't no whimp when it comes to the weather. So I don't believe that's the only reason fields were low. Just my opinion though!Quote:

Its got nothing to do with catching 5-6 pound fish smart guy, it has to do with safety, just ask Brian Geisel. I love fishing but im not willing to die for it.
I know, I was just saying that it doesn't make sense that other big bodies of water like Kingston and Simcoe can draw the big water SM anglers out of the wood work, why didn't Erie?!? It just doesn't make any sense! I think more than a few people are scratching their heads about it...
I think the difference between Simcoe/Bay of Quinte and Erie is that if the lake blows up on Simcoe and Quinte, you still have fishable water that you can go too. On Erie there is no where to hide except like I said earlier, drifting down the river at break neck speed.
I agree the Niagara River fishes a little different but with a day or 2 in it, it fishes very good, my opinion better than Quinte or lake Couchiching. If there was tournaments restricted to river only you would see some giant largemouth and smallmouth weighed in.
Ask Paul :)

From one of the "locals"
It hurt to no end that I couldn't be out there but it was my daughter's stag & doe weekend.
Too much to do on Saturday to prepare. I had my rods ready for Sunday but in no condition after getting home at 3am. At my age I do need some sleep?LOL
Congrats to the winners.
See you on St.Clair in two weeks.
I hate rough water as much as or even more than the next guy, beleive me... I absolutely hate it! You drive slow, take your time, and deal with it - but nobody I know "likes" it! You just have to watch the websites for winds and plan accordingly - and be cautious out there...
With the light winds last weekend, I totally expected at least double the boats last weekend, just dissappointed - not with the CSFL - as always they ran a great event; just shocked that more local guys didn't show up...
the truth re: the upper niagara river is that it too has phenominal fishing! I'm no expert down that way by any means I typiaclly can only get down there a few times a year, but it is truly an amazing fishery. It aint for everybody - but it is loaded with fish and a most viable option... If guys fished it more I think for sure you'd see big weights from the river too... Paul's video is testament to that!
I didn't know there was grouper in the river.Quote:

Erie is no worse than Lake Ontario in fact Lake O probably gets bigger water more often and it's much further to shore. As for the river there is lots of water with good fish with little to no current. As for Simcoe there's nowhere to hide if you have to come across in that cross chop which is a least as dangerous.Quote:

All of these big water tournaments have a level of risk and that's half the battle. If guys can go out on Erie in a bass boat made for skinny water then some of the locals with bigger boats should have no problem if they are cautious.
Here is what I don't get. $5000 pay out and guys are complaining that not enough boats showed up?? I would think that would make those that did show up pretty happy??
The numbers have been down all year in the CSFL and the trend continues I guess. I don't fish the CSFL for whatever reason, nothing personal but to blame local anglers for lack of participation is a crock. Did we blame Quinte anglers for the low numbers in the Quinte CSFL events? Not that I recall....
As already mentioned having 150 anglers at Fed Cup takes a major hit from the totals as i'm sure had this event been planned at another time it would have had 15 + teams of those that were in Quinte. Oversight i guess?
Blaming the rough waters as a reason, is again not valid. Guys will fish where they want to regardless of the weather and size of water. Kingston is WAY worse than Erie and was well attended, Casey Cup and BPS on Simcoe are always well attended and again as previously mentioned, she's no slouch when it comes to boat bashing waves.
I think, and I may get slammed for this by some, that there is a systemic issue with the tournaments in Ontario. There are far too many circuits and far too many events for guys to choose from and not nearly enough anglers to draw from. The tournament industry is going down more and more every year. Costs are rising, paybacks are being more spread out and even when you win, you barely cover your costs, let alone when you come 20th. A weekend to Erie to fish for 5000 costs me easy $500, not to mention if i have a breakdown.
Plain and simple tourny fishing is fun, but is crazy costly both financially and mentally. Lack of support from sponsorship and communities is getting me to the point where i've just had enough with it all.
Andy's last ditch efforts to have bigger fields with guaranteed payouts is both courageous and bold but also destined for failure and will not be able to be sustained. So look forward to fishing for your money back and liking it.
I don't think the CSFL's efforts are last ditched or destined to fail. Andy's and the CSFL crew do and will continue to do a great job!
The man offered $5000 and had 33 boats show up. You think that will be sustainable, cuz i sure dont. My post was not to bash the CSFL merely to point out the flaws of us anglers who like to point fingers at this or that, it didnt work out well for anyone except for the winners....all the rest of us are losers in this one.....
Maybe not at Erie (as surprising as it was), but I have no doubt the other Wildcards will fill. Especially since everyone has a lot more nottice and can arrange time off etc. over the winter. But I guess the proof will be in the pudding when we see field sizes next summer!Quote:
