COMPETITIVE SPORT FISHING LEAGUE
Announces the renaming of the Phenix Open to the Casey Cup
Sunday June 24, 2007 Lake Simcoe

Toronto, Ontario – February 22, 2007– The Competitive Sport Fishing League announced today that the annual Phenix Simcoe Open has been renamed as the Casey Cup in memory of Gerald “Casey” Creber and dedicate to all the anglers that lived their dreams. As recently stated, the Rick White Memorial event will be merged with The Casey Cup. The Rick White Memorial event which over the past several years has recognized all tournament anglers that have passed away and in the spirit of this event, the CSFL will continue to honour these anglers.

Gerald “Casey” Creber (1938-2006), born in Orillia and raised in Cannington, enjoyed life to the fullest. Casey, a monument engraver by trade, was always a hard worker. At the age of 16, Casey started his live bait business. After putting in a full day, Casey managed to catch and deliver live bait to his customers. In 1963 Casey purchased the Port Bolster Inn, home to “Casey’s Huts”. His devotion to angling was apparent to both his family and his customers. In 1965 Casey became a Charter Captain on Lake Simcoe and in 1975 added Lake Ontario to his resume. In 1995, Casey added competitive fishing to his passion. With his wife Leona at his side, this was a team to be reckoned with. Among numerous titles accomplished, in particular the 2005 Canada/US Walleye Championship, Casey and Leona will always be remembered for the challenge they set forth at the 2005 Bassmania Balsam Lake Classic. We wish to dedicate this event to Casey Creber and all the anglers we have lost along to way in hopes of keeping their memory alive. This annual event is in memory of those anglers that lived their dream. Although they are no longer with us, their memories live on. Please join us in this fundraising event held in memory of Casey Creber, Rick White, Bill Baker, Todd Grover, John McGuire, Gord Wilton, Kevin Jennings, Fred Pepper, Peter Janzen, Rick Amsbury, Bob Scott, Hank Gibson, Jonathan McConnell, Mike Seburn, Rob and Steve Lowe, Mike Dean and Roger Pardy.

In an effort to raise funds for the Cancer Research Society, pre-registered anglers will receive a pledge form/envelope which they can seek pledges based upon the event. Pledges can be made in a flat rate or per pound. A charitable tax receipt will be provided for every donation in excess of $10.00. Vita Pallotta of the CSFL states “in the past, the Phenix Open managed to maintain its 100 boat participation with a $10,000 first prize. If our anglers each obtain an average of $50 in pledges, the Casey Cup could raise up to $10,000 in donations for a worthy cause. “

The CSFL has acquired a trophy for this event which will be housed at the Port Bolster Inn and will tour along with the CSFL Mega Tank at various trade shows.

Andrew Pallotta went on to say “as I recently stated, I firmly believe that one’s life is measured by how he is remembered. Based on that theory, I am proud to have had the opportunity to befriend Casey Creber and create a memoriam in his honour.”

On Sunday June 24, 2007, on Lake Simcoe out of Everglades Marina in Pefferlaw the memoriam will take place at 6:00 am with blast off immediately following. Weigh in takes place at 3:00 pm. We invite all family and friends of the anglers in which this event is dedicated to.
