THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!
Kingston Canadian Open of Fishing Next Week

Kingston, Ontario: Next Thursday July 22nd, the likes of Bob Izumi, Dave Mercer and 78 other pro anglers, along with their co-anglers, will blast off from the shores of downtown Kingston, Ontario to start the 3-day Canadian Open of Fishing on Lake Ontario

In search of big bass and big bucks, these anglers will be in Kingston for a more important reason: to raise money in support of Canadian troops and their families through Soldier On.

During the past number of months, many outdoor partners have come the table to make next week’s fundraiser possible. Three more companies are part of the growing list of supporters:

Canadian Tire 2560 Princess Street in Kingston (www.canadiantire.ca) will provide $3000 for the 3rd place finisher of the tourney.

Radio World of Toronto (www.radioworld.ca) will award $600 gift cards to the 16th to 20th place finishers.

Boater Exam (www.boaterexam.ca) will supply drinking water for all of the anglers during the tournament.

The Kingston Canadian Open of Fishing will feature Pro anglers teaming up with non-boat or co-anglers for a 3 day bass tournament on Lake Ontario July 22nd to 24th. The Pros will be vying for a cash prize purse in excess of $100,000 with the top Pro of the tourney walking away with $40,000 in cash! The co-anglers have a chance at a list of prizes valued at over $50,000 including a first-place prize worth $20,000 in merchandise.

Weigh-in Shows will be in Confederation Park at Kingston’s downtown waterfront Thursday July 22nd, Friday July 23rd and Saturday July 24th at 3:00pm.

Saturday’s show will feature special guest, CBC Sports commentator Don Cherry.

Spectators will have a chance to win prizes as well, including 3 complete home packages of vinyl siding and accessories, one each day of the tournament, with a total three-day retail value of $12,000.00, courtesy of Mitten Incorporated, Cassidy And Company Architectual Technology, and local Mitten Inc. dealer Buchner Manufacturing of Kingston.

Tournament-caught bass will be returned to Lake Ontario each day via the Shimano Live Release System.

While the payouts to top anglers are large, the ultimate goal of The Kingston Canadian Open of Fishing is to raise money in support of injured or ill Canadian Forces personnel through the organization Soldier On. The Soldier On program, and the complementary Soldier On Fund, encourage ill and injured Canadian Forces personnel to attain and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. It supports these personnel in increasing their independence, in developing new skills and in achieving goals.

Warrant Officer Andrew McLean will accept a cheque on behalf of Soldier On during Saturday’s Weigh-in Show.

The Canadian Open of Fishing tournament will be run by the Competitive Sport Fishing League (CSFL). Phone: 905-640-2277; Fax: 905-640-2278; email: bassmania@on.aibn.com.
