My two cents here...

Of course communication is the key to everything here. A brief conversation the evening prior goes a long way to a great day on the water (especially if the fishing isn't ideal).

Last year's Canadian Open Tournament Director did an exceptional talk at the non-boater meeting, discussing etiquette and expectations. I feel that this is crucial and the best way to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Although every boater has much of the same input and concerns, specifics should be addressed with the Tournament Director prior to that meeting so the information can be passed along from the top down, not leaving any boater hanging out as the "bad guy".

Every time I have been a non-boater I sought out my pro, asked about any special conditions, concerns or equipment I could contribute and the conversation was always appreciated. I also believe that every non-boater should always offer gas money and leave it up to the boater as to whether they accept it or not.
