Hot Day on the Ottawa Brings Big Fish to the Renegade Bass Scales

Robert Jackson and Jamie Walker Win Big Adapting to Short Striking Bass

OTTAWA, CANADA – July 9, 2013 – Renegade Bass, the leader in live release bass tournament fishing in Canada, is pleased to announce the results of the 2nd event qualifier of the 2013 tournament season presented by Ranger Boats, Orleans Boat World & Sports and Evinrude BRP Motors.

On July 6th, 2013 seventy-three Elite teams launched from Oziles Marina in Ottawa, Ontario competing for over $17,000 in cash and prizes. A warm day on the Ottawa River proved challenging for many Renegade Bass competitors as high water combined with stained water made it a difficult day to get the bites needed to bring a good bag of fish to the scales. The team of Robert Jackson and Jamie Walker had it figured out bringing just under 22lbs of largemouth to the weigh-in.

“The day came together for us quickly and we managed to have our 21+ lbs of fish in the livewell of our Ranger Boat by 8:30 am. We noticed right away after missing a few bites that the fish were finicky and short striking our jigs. We decided to cut our plastic trailers back and that made the difference putting some big fish in the boat with just a minor change.” said North Country Marine and Digging Dirt Equipment Rentals Pro, Robert Jackson “This is a thrilling win for us and I have to give a big thanks to my wife of 29 years Adrianna for her continued support as well as my father Jim Jackson who picks up the slack at our business Rideauview Contracts so I can go fishing.”

Jackson and Walker went into the second qualifier of the season with only a day’s practice on a body of water they admit has not been good to them in the past. This time around they located some big fish in a smaller area but they had company and were sharing water with another high power team; Bob and Darren Izumi

“We arrived at our first spot at the same time as Bob and Darren Izumi.” It was a relatively small area and Bob called over to us and asked if we wanted left or right and we chose left” said Ranger Boats Pro, Jamie Walker “They didn’t have to even make the offer but it shows that even in Renegade Bass – the best and most competitive fishing series in Canada, you can have guys as gracious as Darren and Bob. We wouldn’t have had the weight we brought to the scales without those guys. It was because of them and the only other person we definitely couldn’t have won without, my wife Bonnie, who puts up with me going fishing as much as I do.”

In Renegade Bass Tour competition, anglers are also vying for high weights in hopes of qualifying for the Renegade Bass Classic, the Canadian elite championship of bass fishing. The 2013 Renegade Bass Classic XVIII takes place September 7th and 8th, 2013 and anglers could win a fully rigged Ranger Bass Boat and Evinrude BRP Motor valued at over $50,000 – the sport’s biggest award in Canada. The top ten teams finished the tournament in:
