Using 1 map card on 2 units

I have a networked HDS 9 genII and a HDS 10 Gen I
The HDS genII. Has the latest firmware which says that it can now share map cards over the network. Do both units need to be Gen II Is there a firmware update needed for the GenI ?

Will only work with Gen 2 units.
