Quinte Series 1 Day - Deseronto Aug 29th Results

Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff make it two in a row with another huge weight !

Centennial Park in Deseronto was the site for the fifth and final one day tournament of the 2004 Quinte Fishing Series season. 38 teams left at the 7:00 a.m. blast off vying for over $5,500.00 in prize money with check-in time at 4:00 p.m. The days leading up to the tournament were very hot and hazy with the weather report for Sunday calling for possible heavy rain leaving tournament officials wondering what weights might come to the scales.
With all teams in by the 4:00 p.m. check-in time, Napanee’s Grant Elliott and Karl Neumayer took the early lead with a mixed bag of large and smallmouth bass weighing in at 19.84 lbs. The lead changed a number of times with some great weights but the team of Brian Hadley and Terry Langstaff, weighing in second to last, made it two in a row with a huge weight of 21.53 lbs! These two anglers, the August 7th and 8th tournament winners, had another all largemouth bag tying the largest one day weight of the Series to date, set at the opening bass tournament of the year on June 27th. On stage at the prize presentations, Brian stated, “ We had a good bag going fairly early and I hooked a 5.00 lb. plus fish on a 10 inch worm, got it half way to the boat and it came off. I said to Terry, that could cost us the tournament. We left that spot but with a half hour left to fish in the day we decided to go back and try again and Terry, on a jig n’ pig, landed the fish and it was enough to give us the few more ounces of weight to get the win.” For the win, Terry and Brian received $1,820.00 in cash as well as two coats compliments of Mark’s Work Warehouse and a $50.00 gift certificate from Kelsey’s/Montana’s Belleville.
Finishing in second place with a great weight of 21.21 lbs. were the husband and wife team of Mike and Mary Nabulsi. These regulars on the Series trail took home $1,175.00 and in their bag was the “big fish” of the day. A largemouth bass of 5.34 lbs. gave them the H2Optix by Bolle’ Big Fish award of $760.00 cash, two pairs of quality H2Optix sunglasses and trophy. Rounding out the top three were the Asselstine’s, Andy and Darcy, with a weight of 20.17 lbs. and these Napanee anglers earned $860.00 for their catch.
The early leaders, Grant Elliott and Karl Neumayer, claimed the fourth spot and the $510.00 cheque and in fifth place with a weight of 19.47 lbs. and receiving $300.00 were last years “Angler of the Year” Dean Thompson and partner Mike Burriss. The final cheque of $150.00 went to Mike Parker and Michael Joron for their weight of 18.92 lbs and their sixth place finish.
Once again, the “Angler/Team of the Year” race will go down to the wire. This award, given to the angler(s) with the best five combined placings for the season is very close and the final tournament, the Quinte Classic, will again decide the winners. Tournament Director, Pete Thompson explained that leading the way again this year is Dean Thompson and Mike Burriss with 13 points but close on their heels are the Asselstines with 14 points and Elliott and Neumayer with 18. “Since the Classic must count towards this title, it will make for a very exciting two days in September”, said Thompson. “We hope to see a good crowd at the George St. launch on Sept. 18th and 19th to cheer these anglers on and to crown the tournament champions and Team of the Year” winners.
As all Quinte Fishing Series events are live release tournaments, all bass weighed in were released back to the water courtesy of the Shimano Live Release boat and thanks go to the Canadian Fishing Tour for the use of this boat.
As stated, the final tournament of the 2004 season will be on Sept. 18th and 19th in Belleville and entries will be excepted until Monday, September 13th. Further info and/or entries can be obtained from Thompson by calling 613-967-1024.
